| .Sakura was a middle-class child born into a middle-class family. She was the only child of two doting parents, and always strove to live up to their expectations. 'Good' was never good enough, in her eyes, and so she worked day in and day out, building on her natural-born strengths. No matter that she was physically weak, and caved when it came to stressful situations. As long as she had all the rules memorized, all the facts beaten into her brain, then everything would be okay... right? Wrong. Everyone around her was excelling, doing better in everything they worked towards, and there she was; still the smartest, still putting that often-teased forehead to good use, but still worthless. What did she want to do with her future? Memorizing information couldn't tell her how to put that knowledge to use. Where was her place in this world? Nothing ever seemed to click with her - it was all the same. It took an hour of pure helplessness to realize her greatest strength. When her friend was hit by a car, it didn't matter anymore how much she had read about first aid. Knowing, and doing were two completely different things. She was in a trance, watching helplessly as medics swarmed around the scene, begging them not to make her leave, that she could help, that she... She was in the way. She would never be in the way again. Call it Divine Providence. Call it fate, or luck. It didn't matter what it's name was. Haruno Sakura was destined to be a medic, and that was the simple truth. She built up her endurance, preparing her mind and body for such a grueling job. Tai Chi, she found, helped clear her mind, and bring control to her movements. Experimenting with different medicinal herbs, trying to find what took the bite off of some common, everyday injuries, became a time-consuming hobby. And when she was old enough for college, her only goal, her main focus, was to shed those chains of the past, and become someone who could help others - someone who was needed, who could save lives, and mend the broken-ness she had once felt. Haruno Sakura. Dr. Haruno. She liked the sound of that. |
